UN court rules over ethnic Tatars, other minorities in Crimea

The International Court of Justice has rejected Ukraine’s request for measures aimed at blocking what Kiev calls “Russian support” for self-defense forces in eastern Ukraine.

With regard to the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism, the Court ruled on Wednesday that there is no need for indicating provisional measures against Russia.

The court said that “with regard to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, Russia must refrain from imposing limitations on the ability of the Crimean Tatar community to conserve its representative institutions and ensure the availability of education in the Ukrainian language,” TASS reports.

The court expects both Moscow and Kiev to work to implement the Minsk agreements to bring peace to eastern Ukraine.
